The Eclipse

Leslie, Mom, and I had the greatest fun watching the eclipse the other night. (Actually, I watched it and ran inside every few minutes excitedly calling them out to see the latest developments.) I enjoyed so much taking pictures throughout most of the second half. Unfortunately, for awhile, I couldn't figure out exactly what setting to put my camera (a Nikon D40) on to get a good picture. Several hours, and 75 pictures later, this is what I had....

I took about 30 pictures that all turned out like this, while I was trying to figure out how to get a good picture. You can see a little bit of the red here.

Finally figuring out how to work my camera. :D

It was clear most of the time, but towards the end a few thin clouds came along. I think they added quite a bit to the pictures!

Looks like some sort of nebula type formation!

Funniness

We were reading tonight in "The Case for Christ," by Lee Strobel. It was Shannon's turn to read. The "credentials" of one of the men was outlined, and mentioned that he had graduated "summa cum laude."

Shannon stopped, looked twice: "Wait a second. Isn't that a kind of coffee?"

"No darling. You're thinking of a cafe latte."

*smile*

Weather Warning

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ANCHORAGE HAS ISSUED A WIND CHILL ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO 12 PM AST TUESDAY.

INCREASING NORTH WINDS COMBINING WITH BELOW ZERO AIR TEMPERATURES WILL PRODUCE WIND CHILL READINGS OF 30 TO 45 BELOW ZERO THROUGH CHANNELED TERRAIN. THESE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO PERSIST THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

The high here down South is 79 tomorrow. :D

Has It Really Been One Whole Year?

Yesterday was Katelyn Grace's birthday. Leslie and I [Lauren, of course] threw a big party for her! Normally, she gets very upset when she's around a lot of people and commotion, but she did surprisingly well yesterday! She is now sitting up very well, and we can't put her down without her immediately rolling over and pushing herself up. She looks so proud sitting so nice and tall!

We had a simple lunch of chickpea salad, green salad, and homemade bread.

Our little friend, Brianna, helping with lunch

Katelyn Grace loves the swinging part of her therapy, so she got extra on her birthday. : )

Such a sweet little grin!

Such a big girl!

She is actually picking things up now and looking at them! Up until several weeks ago, she hadn't done that for months and months!

Singing happy birthday

I made a carrot cake for the party. Unfortunately, Katelyn Grace is off of gluten, so neither Mom (she's still nursing) nor Katelyn Grace could eat it.

Not to worry, though; I also made a buckwheat carrot cake for Mom! Katelyn Grace isn't eating solid food yet (except for pureed fruits and vegetables), so she had to be content to get it through Mom. : )

Katelyn Grace's "cake" was her favorite concoction - coconut cream! It's just the meat of a young coconut thinned and blended until it's smooth. We all love it!

Opening her cards and presents

We-ell ... She was tired of pictures by this point.

Sisters, sisters....

Katelyn Grace means "pure grace."

She's such a sweetheart!
