Even

Our family is now even: two girls, a boy, and two girls!!!

Shannon was surprised how calm she was even though she was full of excitement. Her statement: "It's amazing how solemn you get."

We just said a grateful prayer for a perfectly wonderful new baby sister!

Good-bye, Bob; Hello, Katelyn!

It's a ......

Please welcome our new baby sister, Katelyn Grace!!!!

The umbilical cord isn't even cut yet, and she and Mom are still in the water, so we don't know weight or anything yet.

More soon!

More News

Nicole just came downstairs for a second and announced that things are moving along "very quickly"! The other lady, Tania, who is helping, just arrived. I'm not sure exactly what "very quickly" means, but we should be able to meet this baby before the day is out. I think I can give you this information right now:

Birthday: February 2, 2007

Moving Along

The midwife arrived about half an hour ago, and everything's all set!

I know it doesn't look like it in this picture, but she's really very relaxed, calm, cool, and collected. I kind of took her by surprise in this picture as she was walking through the door.

The "pool" was filled last night, but we just uncovered it and they're making sure the water temperature s right!

Waiting

We're just downstairs reading, talking on the phone, talking with each other, and getting various things for Mom, while watching The Glenn Miller Story on the side.

I'll post another update in less than an hour.

Keep praying! Mom seems to be in good spirits, and our midwife is wonderful!

Breaking News

Hello, this is Lauren reporting for the Fitz News Channel.

Currently, Mom is in labor with contractions every five minutes. The midwife is on her way, and everything is being done to make the delivery as smooth and comfortable as possible. Mom is being a real trooper in spite of the pain. A dear friend has kindly offered to bring dinner over tonight, so the whole family is being well taken care of. (The same friend brought dinner last night, too. Thank you, Mrs. Helen! I know you're watching our blog for updates! You don't know how much we appreciate your friendship!) The Lord has blessed us with such wonderful friends!

Stay tuned for more reports. This is Lauren reporting for the Fitz News Channel.

And We Have an Update

Contractions are intense, and 7 minutes apart.

The midwife thinks that this is "the real deal," and will be heading over here once the contractions are every 5 minutes.

Pray!

Bob's Sassafras Tea

Mom was finally convinced to take some sassafras tea. She didn't want to take anything that would speed up the process, saying that "Bob will come when he comes." After a few almost sleepless nights full of regular contractions (which would always subside when morning rolled around), she finally agreed to take something.

The magic potion

"A watched pot (or kettle) never boils." This one finally did, though.

It's all prepared in a mug made by a very dear friend. (Thanks, Christian!)

Mmmm!

Her contractions are still irregular, but this baby may yet have a February 2nd birthday! We can only hope... (Happy Birthday, Tait!)

Ya'll, your prayers are appreciated and mean so much to us!

[Edit:: We just realized that today is Groundhog Day. Apparently, an early spring is predicted. : ) German folklore is strange.]

A Rough Night

Well, Mom and Dad didn't get very much sleep last night. (No, Bob hasn't come yet.) Mom and Dad went to bed around midnight, and Mom started having contractions at 12:15am. They continued for about four or five hours, getting closer together. Dad got up and filled the "tub" (the little "pool" for the waterbirth). (To see pictures of the "tub," click here.) Around 5am, the contractions started slowing down and now (10:08am) they've pretty much stopped.

Lauren's about to go out and get some sassafras tea for Mom, which is supposed to speed up the labor process. Hopefully Bob will come today!

We'll keep you posted, so keep checking for updates!

Paton's Growing by Leaps and Bounds!

Paton has more than tripled her size in the past month or so. Shortly after Christmas, when we took her to the vet, she weighed only 10 pounds. Now, she's up to 35!!!

Here she is the day we got her: December 23, 2006. 10 pounds.

February 1, 2007. 35 pounds.

She still believes she's a lapdog, though, and loves to curl up in people's laps.

Isn't she beautiful? We had to make some pretty strange sounds to get her to look at the camera.

It's an Alaska Bum! (Leslie doesn't wear those kind of hats very often, so of course the rare occasion warranted a picture.)
